Ravindra Jadeja's bat fails gauge test during CSK vs SRH match in IPL 2025, causing brief on-field delay and replacement.

Ravindra Jadeja’s bat failed the gauge test during the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The CSK all-rounder faced a brief delay after his bat did not pass the umpire’s size gauge.

What is bat’s gauge test?

In the IPL, the bat gauge test is conducted to confirm that bats conform to official size limits, ensuring no batter gains an unfair advantage by using an oversized bat. The procedure includes sliding the bat through a triangular gauge with set dimensions. If the bat fails to pass through, it is considered non-compliant and is not allowed for use in the match.

The incident occurred when he walked out to bat at No. 4. Despite a couple of checks and Jadeja’s amused reaction, the bat remained non-compliant. He tapped it on the ground a few times and requested a recheck, but the issue persisted. Eventually, substitute Shreyas Gopal brought out new bats, one of which passed the test. Fittingly, Jadeja’s very first delivery took the edge and raced away for four runs.
