Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer reveals batting position for IPL 2025
by Ansh Athani · Inside Sport IndiaShreyas Iyer has played 75% of his matches (87 out of 115) at two spots in the IPL, number three and four.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) haven’t confirmed who their openers will be for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, but their captain, Shreyas Iyer, has revealed his batting position.
Right now, Prabhsimran Singh seems like the confirmed opener and either Josh Inglis or Marcus Stoinis as his partner. This debate will go on until either PBKS confirm their combination or when they play their first match against Gujarat Titans on March 25.

But it’s confirmed that Shreyas will bat at number three in IPL 2025. “We already know that IPL is an integral part of Indian cricket. And if I would want to mark myself at some position in T20, it would be No. 3,” Iyer told reporters in Chandigarh.
Shreyas has got experience batting at number three, but he hasn’t played at that position since the IPL 2022 season. Last year, 10 of 14 innings came at number four. The remaining were even lower. But he’s determined that he’ll come one down.
“And that’s what I’m focusing at. I wouldn’t say that we are planning and thinking about what number I will be batting. This time I’m quite clear about that position. And I’m going to be focusing on that number. As long as the coach approves of me,” he added.
With firepower behind him in the batting order, with Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Suryansh Shedge, and Glenn Maxwell all waiting to go berserk, the move makes sense.
