New Test coach for India?

BCCI isn’t sold on Gautam Gambhir as India’s Test coach. The board had approached VVS Laxman to enquire about his willingness to become India’s red-ball coach. But Laxman isn’t interested. The T20 World Cup 2026 could be make or break for Gambhir. If all doesn’t go well for India, he might be on his way out in red-ball cricket.

Gill to play domestic cricket

Shubman Gill will play two matches for Punjab in VHT. Against Sikkim on January 3 and Goa on January 6. The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) expects Gill to join the squad around December 29. He is expected to skip the last group stage match as the India vs New Zealand ODI series commences on January 11.

Shreyas Iyer checks into CoE

Shreyas Iyer has commenced his rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The India ODI vice-captain provided a glimpse of how his road to fitness has been progressing. Shreyas was seen in the nets, but the intensity of the training session was on the lower side. He was also wearing protective gear around his midsection, exactly where he suffered the injury.

BCCI announce India U19 squad

BCCI has announced India’s squad for the ICC Men’s Under-19 ODI World Cup 2026. Ayush Mhatre has been named captain, with Vihaan Malhotra as his deputy. Vaibhav Suryavanshi will lead the team against South Africa in the preparatory series, as both Mhatre and Malhotra are recovering from injuries.

PCB lays out PSL plans

PCB has set PKR 1.30 billion (INR 41.51 crore) as the annual fee for the purchase of two new PSL franchises. The former owner of Multan Sultans, who relinquished the ownership of the team, is in the running to acquire one of the two new teams. The PCB has guaranteed a minimum distribution of PKR 850 million (INR 27.13 crore) to each franchise for the next 5 seasons.

Australia win & yet lose

Cricket Australia (CA) is set to lose over $10 million (INR 60.22 crore) after the fourth Ashes Test finished in just 2 days. CA will have to refund ticket holders for the third and fourth days. The official attendance for the match at the MCG stood at 186,244.
