Haris Rauf banned for 2 matches after Asia Cup misconduct, Suryakumar Yadav close to suspension

by · Inside Sport India

Haris Rauf had abused Indian players and made war-related gestures toward the crowd after getting jeered on the boundary line.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Haris Rauf for 2 matches. The Pakistan fast bowler was twice found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that brings the game into disrepute.

Haris Rauf suspended for 2 matches

The first incident happened during the India vs Pakistan match on September 14 in the 2025 Asia Cup. Haris was fined 30% of his match fee and handed 2 demerit points. In the Super Six game, the pacer had abused Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma and wanted to try to pick a fight with them.

Later, after getting mocked by the Indian fans in the crowd, Haris made gestures related to tensions between India and Pakistan and was again punished like a week before. He was fined 30% of his match fee and an additional 2 demerit points.

For the unaware, 4 or more demerit points within a 24-month period mean a player will receive a ban of one Test match or two ODIs or two T20Is. Therefore, Haris has been banned from the first two Pakistan vs South Africa ODI series, which began today.

“This takes Rauf’s total to four demerit points within a 24-month period, resulting in two suspension points under the ICC’s disciplinary framework. In accordance with the Code, Rauf is therefore suspended for Pakistan’s ODI games against South Africa on 4 and 6 November 2025,” ICC wrote.

Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah & Sahibzada Farhan also punished

Suryakumar Yadav was also fined 30% of his match fee and received two demerit points for the same breach that Haris did on September 14. If the India T20I captain breaches the code of conduct again and gets handed more demerit points, he might be suspended like Haris as well. Meanwhile, Sahibzada was issued an official warning, receiving 1 demerit point for his gun celebration.

Jasprit Bumrah, who responded to Haris’ plane gesture with his own and, like Sahibzada, got an official warning, receiving 1 demerit point.
