Prithvi Shaw goes unsold in IPL auction 2026, comes as first major surprise
by Madhav Agarwal · Inside Sport IndiaListed at a base price of INR 75 lakh, India opener Prithvi Shaw went unsold at the IPL auction 2026.
There were a lot of expectations that India opener Prithvi Shaw, after being ignored for IPL 2025, would make a comeback in the league, but all his hopes were thwarted, as he went unsold in the IPL auction 2026. All this despite him getting a few noteworthy performances under his belt in the ongoing domestic season.
No takers for Prithvi Shaw in IPL auction 2026
The 26-year-old had registered for a base price of INR 75 lakh, but just about no team seemed interested in the attacking batter, who has played 79 IPL matches so far, scoring almost 1900 runs at an average of 24, scoring 14 fifties. It is important to note that that Prithvi Shaw has already played 7 seasons of the league with DC, but could not impress the team management with his redemption.
After changing his state in domestic cricket, to Maharasthra, he had a decent Ranji season, and a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season, where he scored two fifties, one each against Bihar and Hyderabad. In 5 Ranji matches, he scored 470 runs at an average of 67, including a 222.
That said, perhaps it might not be all over for the talented batter. If teams feel that they could get him for a cheaper price, they might just call him back in the accelerated round as well. On the other hand, another strong domestic performer, Sarfaraz Khan was left out. No team went for the veteran, who has been going great guns in the SMAT as well. In fact, it is on Tuesday itself, he went on to score a 15-ball fifty against Rajasthan.
