Former Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma sizzled with a 28-ball half-century in Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 tournament opener against Sikkim on Wednesday. The Hitman’s red-hot form in the 50-over format continues as he has scored his 5th 50-plus knock in the last five 50-over games that he has been a part of. Mumbai have been set a total of 237 runs to chase down in order to win their VHT opener.

Rohit Sharma slams fifty on VHT return

Rohit slammed 7 fours and 4 sixes en route to his half-century in the game against Sikkim on Wednesday, maintaining a strike rate of over 170 (at the time of publishing this copy). 94.55% of his runs came off boundaries, as he struck a boundary after every 2.82 deliveries. Sharma provided the perfect start for Mumbai, acting as the aggressor in the run-chase while Angkrish Raghuvanshi played the role of the anchor on the other end.

After finishing the year with 650 runs (just 1 runs less than Kohli’s tally), Rohit would love to make full use of his form. The Hitman will next be seen in action in international cricket in the IND vs NZ ODI series that begins on January 11. Sharma last played the VIjay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai back in the 2018 season when he turned up for a semi-final against Hyderabad. Initially, he wasn’t named in Mumbai’s squad for the tournament, with chief selector Sanjay Patil claiming that youngsters were to be given opportunities. However, the Hitman will now play two games in the VHT as a part of his preparation for the series against New Zealand and in a bid to stay in contention for a spot in the Indian side for the 2027 ODI World cup.
