Kuldeep Yadav was not picked due to his batting in the IND vs ENG Tests, and has clarified that he has been working on his batting.

For long, in Test matches chinaman Kuldeep Yadav has been ignored to be picked in the playing XIs. In England too, he missed all the five matches of the series, despite being picked in the squad. And one of the biggest reasons for that was, him not being an-rounder. Coach Gautam Gambhir wanted an elongated batting line up, until the no. 8, and hence Kuldeep missed.

But the spinner has maintained that he has been working on his batting, and reiterated it in the pre-match conference before the IND vs Oman Asia Cup match on Friday. He made it clear, that he is not worried about his batting. “Obviously not worried about batting. Whenever I get an opportunity to bat in the nets, I do that. It is very important to bat in the game, that goes for any batter. Been working on batting a lot.”

Kuldeep also went on to answer how the communication with Gautam Gambhir was during the England tour, where he sat out. “There was clear communication. I felt I could have played in 3-4 matches, purely because of the batting depth. Gauti bhai was straightforward. It is just that my place couldn’t be made in the side, due to conditions or combinations.”

Been Working on Batting

Just talking about Kuldeep’s number as a batter in FC cricket, he hasn’t been bad by any stretch of imagination. In 44 matches, he has scored 1050 runs with one 100 and six fifties. In the IND vs ENG Test in 2024 in Ranchi, he scored a valuable 28 from 131 deliveries, that ensured India scored 307, chasing England’s first innings score of 353.

Meanwhile, India has already qualified for the Asia Cup Super 4s, while Pakistan are the other side from Group A. They will now face-off on September 21.
