Watch: Harmanpreet Kaur drops Alyssa Healy’s catch in IND vs AUS semifinal

by · Inside Sport India

Healy, who had scored 142 runs against India in the group stage match, was dropped when she was batting at just 2.

Harmanpreet Kaur has committed the biggest sin you can in cricket. She’s dropped a catch in the ICC knockout match. While missed chances are part of cricket, these are the errors people remember you for.

During the 1999 Men’s ODI World Cup, South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs dropped Australia captain Steve Waugh’s catch in the group stage. Famously, he quipped after that fumble, “How does it feel to drop the World Cup, Herschelle?” While this has been debunked by Waugh himself, Australia beat South Africa in a tied semifinal and then went on to win the tournament.

Harmanpreet Kaur drops Alyssa Healy

Harmanpreet’s dropped catch of Australia captain Alyssa Healy in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup semifinal at Navi Mumbai could have a similar effect. Standing at mid-off, the Indian captain dropped a dolly off a catch while running to her right.

Healy had chipped a ball swinging in from Renuka Singh Thakur, but that grave error didn’t cost her. Known for standing up in big matches, she was one of the biggest thorns in India’s path to the Women’s ODI World Cup final. But Harmanpreet failed to grab the opportunity with both hands, literally and figuratively.

Kranti Goud makes up for it

Luckily for India, Kranti Goud made Harmanpreet’s error disappear from memory. On the first ball of the 6th over, she cleaned up Healy. The Australian captain couldn’t get going and finally edged one to the stumps.

Rain had been pouring before Healy was dismissed. Unfortunately for her, the moment she got out, the umpires asked the players to leave the field. But that’s how the game works.
