There’s both bad and good news for Anmolpreet Singh. The player, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, has made headlines by scoring a blazing century for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Anmolpreet smashed a century off just 35 balls against Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing his immense potential. This is the fastest century by any Indian in List A cricket and third fastest overall. The match between Punjab and Arunachal Pradesh was played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Ground ‘A’, Motera, on Saturday.
Anmolpreet Singh’s innings against Arunachal Pradesh
Anmolpreet Singh came in to bat at number 3 and delivered an incredible knock of 115 runs off just 45 balls. Punjab, playing their first match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Arunachal Pradesh, bundled their opponents out for 164 runs in the first innings.
In the second innings, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh opened for Punjab. After Abhishek Sharma, the team captain, was dismissed for just 10 runs, Anmolpreet stepped in and completely dominated the game. He smashed 12 fours and 9 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 255.5, finishing unbeaten on 115. Punjab chased down the target in just 12.5 overs in Ahmedabad, making it a remarkable performance.
Anmolpreet Singh in IPL
Anmolpreet Singh isn’t new to the IPL. He made his debut in 2021 with Mumbai Indians, later played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played a total of 9 matches till 2024. He scored 139 runs with his highest score being 36, maintaining a strike rate of 120.87. However, he didn’t get many opportunities, as he played only 2 matches in 2024, scoring just 5 runs.
Despite registering for the IPL 2025 auction with a base price of ₹30 lakhs, no franchise showed interest in acquiring him, leaving him unsold.
Can Anmolpreet play in IPL 2025?
There’s still a slim chance for Anmolpreet Singh to feature in IPL 2025. If any player gets injured or withdraws from the tournament, franchises might consider him as a replacement. While the likelihood is low, his recent performances in domestic cricket could make him a viable option for teams in need of a solid middle-order batter.
