by Naman Jain · Inside Sport IndiaCatch the entire day schedule of Lionel Messi on December 13. He will visit Kolkata and Hyderabad on Saturaday during his GOAT India tour.
Lionel Messi’s India tour officially begins on December 13, and Kolkata makes sure it is anything but quiet. The Argentine legend landed in the city well before dawn, but by 3:30 AM, fans were already lining up outside the airport and later near his hotel and made sure he won’t forget his welcome anytime soon. For a city that lives and breathes the game, Messi’s return after 14 years is something otherworldly.
Lionel Messi schedule on Dec 13
On December 13, Lionel Messi’s Kolkata leg starts later in the morning with a VIP meet-and-greet between 9:30 and 10:30 AM, where selected guests and dignitaries will get photographs, autographs and brief interactions with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner at a private venue. Shortly after, the day moves into its biggest thrills.
Between 11 AM and 1 PM, Messi will step into the Salt Lake Stadium to greet nearly 85,000 fans, a rare sight for Indian football. The tickets are already sold out on the District app. During the event, he will virtually inaugurate the ‘Monumento de Messi’, a 70-foot statue of him holding the FIFA World Cup, located at Lake Town. The stadium programme is also expected to feature Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who has a mega fan following in Kolkata as well, partly because of him owning the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the IPL.
Busy Messi Day in KOL & HYD
Messi’s December 13 schedule also includes high-profile meetings off the pitch. He is set to meet Sourav Ganguly and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before departing Kolkata. The city itself reflects the moment, with Messi posters, Argentina flags and blue-and-white jerseys dotting streets and neighbourhoods.
By 4:30 PM, Messi will leave for the second leg of the tour, landing in Hyderabad, where the day ends with another headline act. He will head to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium for a short exhibition match, where he is scheduled to play the final five minutes against Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is himself a footballer admirer and has been preparing for weeks.
