Nicknamed the “Egyptian King,” Salah’s path to 50 Champions League goals has been remarkable. His total has come across three different clubs, most notably Liverpool, where he has scored 47 times in the competition.

Before becoming a star at Anfield, he also scored in the Champions League for Basel and Roma, netting twice for the Swiss side and once for the Italian club.

That spread of goals reflects not only his longevity, but also his ability to thrive in different leagues, systems and footballing environments.

With this latest achievement, Salah has strengthened his position at the top of the list of African goalscorers in Champions League history.

He now sits clear of several of the continent’s biggest names. Didier Drogba, the Chelsea icon, follows with 44 goals, while Samuel Eto’o, one of the competition’s great winners, has 30.

Sadio Mané and Riyad Mahrez round out the top five with 27 and 20 respectively.

More than just a statistical feat, Salah’s latest record is another powerful example of African excellence on football’s biggest stage.
