Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo has been handed a late call-up to the national team after injuries and suspensions hit Otto Addo’s plans, according to the Ghana FA.
The 27-year-old steps in following the withdrawal of Ibrahim Sulemana, who picked up a knock, and the suspension of Elisha Owusu, who is serving a one-match ban. Sibo’s inclusion is expected to offer Ghana extra depth in midfield as they prepare for a tough encounter against the Eagles in the capital.
There is also positive news for Ghana fans as vice-captain Thomas Partey is set to make his return to the team.
The Villarreal midfielder missed the away draw against Chad due to illness, but he has recovered fully and is in line to feature in tonight’s high-profile clash. His presence will provide much-needed stability and leadership in midfield.
In addition, Alexander Djiku has been declared fit and available for selection after sitting out the Chad fixture. The intelligent defender’s return comes as a timely boost for Otto Addo, who will rely on his defensive awareness and experience to help contain Mali’s dangerous attack.
With both Partey and Djiku back in contention, the Black Stars will feel more confident heading into this crucial World Cup qualifier.
Their return is particularly significant given recent performances, where individual quality has made the difference for Ghana.
The ex-Arsenal star scored a brace of headers in his last Black Stars appearance, a 3-0 away win against Madagascar in Al Hoceima, Morocco, on March 24 of the year.
With these adjustments, Otto Addo will have to reshuffle his setup, but the return of Partey, combined with Sibo’s late addition, ensures the Black Stars head into the game with renewed optimism.
