LEINSTER CAPTAIN CAELAN Doris has emerged as a doubt for this summer’s British and Irish Lions tour as he prepares to undergo a procedure for a shoulder injury.

Leinster today revealed that Doris would undergo the procedure this week on a shoulder injury and coach Jacques Nienaber says that Doris could be ruled out from anywhere between four weeks and six months, but that they will know more once the procedure is carried out. Doris picked up the injury in Leinster’s Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Northampton Saints, and has already been ruled out of their URC clash with Zebre this weekend.

If the damage is significant, Doris could be ruled out of the Lions tour to Australia this summer. The squad is due to be announced this Thursday.

“If there is not too much structural damage – it is tough to say, my physio knowledge is a little bit woozy – but I would say that can be anything between 4-8 weeks,” Nienaber explained at a Leinster press conference today

“If there is structural damage it can go more than that, between four and six months, so it depends on what they find when they go in and have a look at it.

“Hopefully for him it is not that bad but you do the assessment and my gut feeling when I saw him come off. I had never seen him come off with an injury so he is a hard man, in my opinion.

“When he came off my gut was that this doesn’t look good, but that is purely subjective. They will go in and scope and see what is wrong.”

Meanwhile, Rob Russell and James Ryan have returned to full training with Leinster following their return from injury while there is no update on Jordan Larmour, Will Connors and Brian Deeny.
