AFCON 2025: Tinubu, Obi hail Super Eagles semi-final ticket

by Agency Report · Premium TimesPresident Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for their victory over Algeria and qualification for the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament in Morocco.
In a post on his X handle, shortly after the match, Mr Tinubu praised the team’s display and assured them of national support.
“Brilliant performance… inspiring,” the President wrote,
“Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians,” he added.
Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed the victory for Nigeria in Marrakech, extending the team’s unbeaten run in the competition.
In a similar gesture, Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has also congratulated the Super Eagles on their victory over Algeria in the quarter-final match.
Mr Obi, a former governor of Anambra, in his congratulatory message posted on his X handle, said that the 2-0 victory sends a clear message to the rest of the continent.
Mr Obi wrote: “Clinical finishing, a rock-solid defence, and a rewarding gift to over 200 million people cheering you on.
“The AFCON trophy is within reach, Keep the fire burning. Let’s take this momentum straight into the semi-finals. Up Nigeria.”
