Borussia Dortmund sack head coach Nuri Sahin
by Chuck Penfold · DWBundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have sacked coach Nuri Sahin. The move comes just hours after the club lost a fourth match in a row.
Borussia Dortmund said in statement on Wednesday that it had decided to part ways with their head coach following their fourth defeat in their fourth match of 2025, a 2-1 defeat to Bologna in the Champions League.
"This decision also hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the match in Bologna," Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken said.
The move had been coming, with Dortmund, a club that is expected to qualify for the Champions League on an annual basis, languishing in 10th place in the Bundesliga.
Ricken said that based on that and the fact that Dortmund have won just one of their last nine matches, the board had "lost faith that we can still achieve our sporting goals in the current constellation."
Sahin was appointed head coach just last summer, replacing Edin Terzic.
Dortmund said that they will announce shortly who will be in charge of the team for their Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
