Everton are on the lookout for a new manager after Sean Dyche was axed just hours before Thursday night's FA Cup clash with Peterborough.
The Toffees decided to wield the axe with the struggling club being dragged into another relegation battle, hovering just a point above the drop zone in 16th. Winless in their last five games, Dyche led the club to just three victories from 19 Premier League matches this season - with his goal-shy side the second-lowest scorers in the top-flight with 15 strikes.
In a brief statement, the Merseyside outfit confirmed: "Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect. Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club. The process to appoint a new Manager is underway and an update will be provided in due course. Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis."
A number of names have already been heavily linked with the vacancy, with odds compiled by Gambling.com listing Jose Mourinho as the favourite. The Special One is currently in charge of Fenerbahce but worked with owners the Friedkin Group at Roma, where he led the Italians to Europa Conference League glory in 2022 before being relieved of his after two-and-a-half years.
Former Everton boss David Moyes has also been touted for a sensational return to Goodison Park, where the Scot spent a successful 11 years in charge between 2002 and 2013. Moyes has been out of work since departing West Ham last summer but it remains to be seen whether he would be tempted back to the relegation-threatened Blues.
Lee Carsley and Brentford head coach Thomas Frank have also been named among the frontrunners, while ex-AC Milan gaffer Paulo Fonseca has been mentioned too. Record Sport takes a look at the runners and riders who could succeed Dyche.
