Valentina Shevchenko vs. Manon Fiorot squared off in a women’s Flyweight bout earlier tonight (Sat., May 10, 2025) at UFC 315 inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Shevchenko found her distance quickly, making Fiorot miss and landing some solid counters in the opening exchanges. Fiorot found some success with her lead leg kicks. Whenever she tried to punch, however, she was getting interrupted by Shevchenko’s counter right hook. Fiorot’s nose was bleeding badly just a couple minutes into the round, and another right hook wobbled the knees. Then, Shevchenko caught a side kick and converted it into a takedown. She didn’t do much with top position, but it was an incredible opening five minutes for the defending champion.

Fiorot opened round two by driving for a takedown along the fence. Shevchenko escaped back to the open easily and landed a spinning kick. Shevchenko landed a slick trip from the clinch, but Fiorot scrambled brilliantly to stand up instantly. Fiorot defended another takedown nicely then attacked a double of her own along the fence. This time, she was able to circle towards the back clinch, where she landed some decent knees and an elbow on the break. Fiorot committed to her third shot of the fight and scored! Triangling the legs for control, Fiorot held top position for a bit and nearly landed an illegal knee in the final exchange.

Still, it was an excellent rebound from the challenger.

Shevchenko denied the first takedown attempt of round three and landed some low kicks. Fiorot closed distance into the clinch and scored with a solid elbow. Shevchenko applied the same tactic to land a jab on the break. Fiorot landed a nice series of knees from the clinch. Out of nowhere, Shevchenko landed a cracking spinning strike, but Fiorot walked right through it to start wrestling again. She couldn’t finish the takedown but pressed Shevchenko into the fence for a while to close a very competitive round.

With ten minutes remaining, it was anyone’s fight.

Shevchenko found the mark with jabs and low kicks early in the fourth. Fiorot pressed Shevchenko back into the fence from the clinch, landing short shots. Fiorot defended a Shevchenko shot and landed a hard knee in response. Shevchenko answered with a defended takedown and land of her own! Shevchenko scored with a heavy spin kick that knocked Fiorot backward. With a minute remaining, Shevchenko scored a brief takedown. Fiorot sprung back to her feet and dug a knee. Right before the bell, a Shevchenko counter jab floored the challenger!

Fiorot’s corner implored her that she needed a finish before the final frame. She opened the fifth by pressing forward and landing a solid knee along the fence. Shevchenko cracked her with a left hand counter. Another spinning backfist scored well for Shevchenko — her spinning strikes were on point in this match up! Shevchenko landed a Superman punch then was shoved back into the fence. Fiorot connected with a couple nice straight punches then clinched again. The two traded in the closing seconds, with Fiorot finding a nice elbow before the bell.

All told, this was a very competitive fight. It wasn’t always the most active, but the two athletes did well in adjusting to one another’s success. Ultimately, Shevchenko probably landed the more damaging shots, but Fiorot racked up quite a bit of control time in the clinch.

Ultimately, the judges unanimously sided with Shevchenko to retain her title. Tonight at least, damage reigned supreme! Once again, it’s remarkable work for an older champion to turn away such a skilled contender of the generation after her.

Result: Valentina Shevchenko defeats Manon Fiorot via unanimous decision
