Joanderson Brito vs. Pat Sabatini squared off in a Featherweight contest earlier tonight (Sat., April 5, 2025) at UFC Vegas 105 from UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an excellent showing, Sabatini shut his opponent down for three straight rounds with his wrestling skill.
The two fighters started the contest with a trade of kicks, but Sabatini flipped the script by immediately catching Brito’s leg and taking the Brazilian down. Brito tried to counter with a guillotine choke and nearly ended up in a Von Flue choke as a result. Sabatini settled into half guard and weighed heavy on his opponent. When Brito nearly escaped to his feet, Sabatini slammed him back to the floor. Finally, he landed a few shots in the closing seconds of the first frame.
Relatively little damage was done, but Sabatini controlled the entire first frame on the floor.
Brito opened the second aggressively, landing a clubbing hook. He stuffed Sabatini’s first shot, but the jiu-jitsu black belt timed his next attempt better and floored his opponent a second time. Once more, he settled into half guard and completely pinned “Turabao” to the canvas. This round, he was able to land strikes a bit more actively while utterly controlling the explosive Brazilian.
Brito returned to his corner frustrated and obvious need of a finish.
Brito fought desperately to start the third, swinging wildly. He landed one solid body hook before the first Sabatini takedown attempt. Instead of defending the shot, he tried to jump on yet another guillotine choke, which promptly landed him on his back. For the third time in three rounds, Sabatini landed in half guard and flattened his foe. This time, he was able to advance into back mount for the first time, though there wasn’t a ton of time remaining. From dominant positions, Sabatini landed his heaviest shots of the fight, an excellent way to close off a strong performance.
What more is there to say? Sabatini utterly dominated his opponent, taking advantage of Brito’s aggression perfectly to remain in control for the vast majority of 15 minutes. He took on a very talented opponent and barely took a punch in the process.
It may not have been overly fun to watch, but this was a high-level showing from the Philadelphia-native.
Result: Sabatini defeats Brito via unanimous decision
