Jose Aldo called an end to his storied UFC career last night (Sat., May 10, 2025) at UFC 315 LIVE on ESPN+ PPV from inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, telling fans it’s the last time they’ll see him fight after a thrilling decision loss to hometown underdog Aiemann Zahabi.
Haven’t we been here before?
The first two rounds of the fight were pretty evenly split. Aldo pressed the action more and had a slight momentum advantage, but Zahabi was the perfect counterpart. He stood his ground and willingly exchanged with one of the best fighters ever. Aldo still looked sharp and it made for an entertaining fight.
In Round 3, all hell broke loose. Aldo landed a hard right hand that badly hurt Zahabi. Aldo then landed one of his patented knees inside that sent the Canadian to the ground. As Zahabi was returning to his feet Aldo unloaded a nasty soccer kick that was a bit questionable. Zahabi flew backwards onto the canvas, but he still survived.
Aldo, who tried his best to get the finish, was exhausted. This allowed Zahabi to find a home for his own attacks. Zahabi eventually found his way into top position and unloaded heavy elbows that sliced Aldo open on the forehead. Aldo had nothing left, but still defended enough to keep the referee at bay.
In the end, Zahabi walked away with the unanimous decision win. As for Aldo, he called an end to his UFC career following the loss stating that, “I can’t do this anymore.” Check out the video highlights below along with Aldo’s post-fight speech:
