FC Barcelona Vs. Osasuna Match Postponed Shortly Before Kick Off
by Tom Sanderson · ForbesThe La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Osasuna was postponed less than 20 minutes before kick off because of the death of the Barca’s first team doctor, as confirmed by an official statement sent to members of the press.
“FC Barcelona regrets to announce the sad news of the death of the first team doctor, Carles Miñarro Garcia, this afternoon,” the statement began.
"For this reason, the match between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna is postponed until a new date.
"The Board of Directors and all of the workers of FC Barcelona want to convey our most sincere condolences to family and friends, accompanying them in their feelings in these difficult times," it concluded.
Osasuna published its own statement on the matter and said: "Osasuna wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Carles Minarro Garcia and would like to send a warm hug to all the staff of FC Barcelona, as well as to its fans, at this difficult time. May he rest in peace."
Though soccer becomes of secondary importance in these matters, it is difficult to imagine when the match might be rescheduled and take place.
Barca plays in the Champions League on Tuesday, hosting Benfica in Montjuic for a vital last 16 second leg clash which it goes into with a 1-0 advantage.
The following Sunday, it then travels to Atletico Madrid for a top of the table clash, and might actually trail Diego Simeone's men.
Barca currently leads Atleti by one point and Real Madrid by three at the La Liga summit, but both teams from the Spanish capital play on Sunday against Getafe and Rayo Vallecano, and could therefore pick up points.

After that, internationals take over the calendar meaning that Barca isn’t in action again until a March 30 home match against Catalan neighbours Girona.
On April 2, Barca returns to the Metropolitano to face off against Atleti for a place in the Copa del Rey final.
After a 4-4 semifinal first leg thriller in Montjuic where both teams trailed by two goals at one point of the proceedings, the score is all tied.
Barca could go further in the Champions League and Copa, making it tricky to fit in the Osasuna match anytime soon.
