Chennai, Nov 11: Jammu and Kashmir scripted history on Tuesday by defeating Delhi by seven wickets in the Ranji Trophy — their first-ever victory against the powerhouse side.

Chasing a target of 179 in Delhi, J&K rode on opener Qamran Iqbal’s unbeaten 133, his career-best innings, to seal a memorable win. The result marks J&K’s second outright triumph of the season, pushing them to second place in Elite Group D, just behind Mumbai.

The victory was built on stellar all-round performances. Auqib Nabi dismantled Delhi’s first innings with figures of 5 for 35, while skipper Paras Dogra led from the front with a composed 106. Abdul Samad added a quick 86, maintaining momentum through the middle order. In Delhi’s second innings, Vanshaj Sharma’s fiery 6 for 68 crushed any hopes of a home comeback.

In recent seasons, Jammu and Kashmir have emerged as one of India’s most improved domestic teams, having defeated heavyweights like Mumbai, Baroda, Rajasthan, and Vidarbha — a testament to their steady rise in Indian cricket.
