Srinagar, Oct 20: Jammu and Kashmir cricket stalwart Parvez Rasool on Saturday announced his retirement from all formats of the game, ending a 17-year First-Class career that saw him claim 352 wickets and score 5,648 runs. The 36-year-old all-rounder, hailing from Bijbehara, Kashmir, informed the BCCI of his decision.

Rasool holds the distinction of being the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India internationally and also the first from the region to play in the IPL. While his international stint was brief—one ODI and a solitary T20I—he was a stalwart in domestic cricket, consistently delivering all-round performances.

“I feel immense satisfaction having contributed to Jammu and Kashmir cricket. When we started, not many took our cricket seriously, but we went on to beat some of the big teams and perform well in the Ranji Trophy and other tournaments. Leading the team for a long period has been a proud journey,” Rasool said.

Rasool’s domestic achievements include winning the Lala Amarnath Trophy for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice, in 2013/14 and 2017/18, highlighting his significant contribution to the game. Over the years, he has been an inspiration for aspiring cricketers from the region, helping elevate the profile of J&K cricket on the national stage. (Agencies)
