THE Islander who helped turn the Hospice half-marathon into “one of the Island’s most successful and anticipated fundraising events” has been nominated for the Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year award.
Jersey Hospice Care volunteer manager Loraine Fulton was among those who spearheaded the creation of the half-marathon in 2020.
Since then, the event has raised more than £250,000 for the charity – including £60,000 in 2026 alone.
Her nominator Mike Brockbank said: “Through her leadership, enthusiasm, and determination, she brought together runners, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters from across the community.”
But Ms Fulton’s fundraising efforts extend beyond the half-marathon, with the volunteer manager also helping to organise events including coffee mornings and raffles.
Earlier this year, she took on a challenge of her own by playing nine holes at every golf course in the Island – starting at 5am and finishing at 9pm, just as the sprinklers turned on.
Mr Brockbank said Ms Fulton’s work organising fundraising events had helped “create a lasting legacy for Jersey Hospice Care, ensuring that vital funds continue”.
