The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Hon. Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North and owner of Nukunu Sports Academy, as the new Chairman of the Elite U19 Boys Championship.

He takes over from Abdul Salam Yakubu.

Hon. Agbana has long been connected to football administration, offering financial and logistical support to clubs and over 70 communities in the Volta Region. He is noted for his backing of Heritage FC, In Lead SC in Tadzewu and several juvenile sides, while also being a strong supporter of the Volta Regional Football Association. Until recently, he served as Corporate Affairs Manager of Premier League outfit Young Apostles FC.

The Elite U19 Championship, introduced under the GFA’s Power to the Youth policy, aims to discover and develop young talent from the grassroots. It is open to Second Division players born in 2007 and serves as a link between grassroots football and the elite game.

Hon. Agbana will lead a five-member committee tasked with structuring the competition, ensuring fair eligibility processes and creating scouting opportunities. The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the GFA to revive youth football, strengthen talent development, and build a pipeline for future national teams and professional clubs.
