Hon. Eric Edem Agbana lauds Ghana FA and MTN at launch of Elite U-19 Championship
· GhanaSoccernetChairman of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, has praised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and MTN Ghana for their steadfast commitment to youth football development following the official launch of the maiden edition of the competition in Accra on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
The Ketu North legislator commended the GFA under the leadership of President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku for revitalizing Ghana’s football structure through strategic youth development initiatives.
He described the Elite U-19 Championship as a key pillar of that vision, aimed at discovering and nurturing future stars from across the country.
“This initiative is a springboard for unearthing and refining young talents across the country,” Hon. Agbana said.
“It will provide players, especially those from underserved communities, the chance to gain exposure, develop discipline, and build careers in football.”
He also lauded MTN Ghana for its continued investment in Ghanaian football, noting that the company’s support reflects a strong sense of national purpose and commitment to youth empowerment.
In his remarks, Hon. Agbana took a moment to congratulate the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing their achievement as a symbol of Ghana’s resilience and renewed football excellence.
The maiden MTN Elite U-19 Championship will run from October 23 to November 2, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The 11-day competition will feature ten Regional Football Association (RFA) U-19 teams showcasing some of Ghana’s most promising young players.
Supported by the GFA and proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the championship forms part of the Association’s broader “Power to the Youth” agenda - an initiative aimed at building a structured pathway for young players to transition from grassroots football to the national stage.
“This is your stage,” Hon. Agbana told the players. “Train hard, stay humble, and remember that talent opens the door, but character keeps it open.”
