The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued a statement condemning the acts of violence witnessed during the Premier League encounter between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.

The Week 19 league match on Sunday at Nana Kronamansah Park was interrupted in the second half when alleged supporters of the home team threw objects towards the bench of the visitors.

Subsequently, Kotoko captain Justice Blay was captured throwing an object into the fans before players on the field exchanged punches.

At the height of the lawlessness, a fan of Asante Kotoko was tragically stabbed to death.

In its statement, the Ghana Football Association stressed that the incidents are unacceptable.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) strongly condemns the acts of violence and lawlessness that marred the Ghana Premier League match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on 2nd February 2025 at Nana Kronamansah Park. The tragic events resulted in the loss of life, several injuries, and the destruction of property—an unacceptable blemish on the integrity of our game,” the football association said in its statement.

In a decisive action, the Ghana FA Executive Committee has with immediate effect, invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, by banning the use of the Nsoatreman FC home venue until further notice.

“This action ensures the safety of all stakeholders while investigations proceed,” the GFA explained.
