Edem Agbana honoured to be appointed chairman of the Elite U19 Boys Championship
· GhanaSoccernetHon. Edem Agbana, the Ghanaian-Togolese Member of Parliament for Ketu North and owner of Nukunu Sports Academy, says he is 'deeply honoured' to be named chairman of the Elite U19 Boys Championship.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed his appointment this week, with Agbana stepping into the role previously held by Abdul Salam Yakubu.
In a post on Facebook, the MP expressed gratitude to the GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and the Executive Council for the confidence placed in him, while pledging to work closely with his colleagues to “make this championship a success.”
“I am deeply honoured to be appointed Chairman of the Elite U19 Championship.
“My sincere thanks go to the GFA President, Mr Kurt Edwin S. Okraku, and the GFA Executive Committee for the confidence reposed in me.
“Congratulations to my colleagues on the team. Together, we shall work hard to make this championship a success.
“To my family, friends, and all who have sent messages publicly and privately, I am truly grateful for the love and support.
“The U19 Championship is about the future of Ghana football . Let us all join hands to make it a big deal.
“As always, I will serve with utmost dedication and commit my all to the development of the game.”
The Elite U19 Boys Championship, launched under the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” policy, is designed to bridge the gap between grassroots football and the elite game.
It focuses on players born in 2007 competing in the Second Division, offering a pathway to national teams and professional clubs.
Agbana will lead a five-member committee tasked with structuring the competition, ensuring transparent eligibility and expanding scouting opportunities.
