OFFICIAL: Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana rejoins Cagliari on loan from Atalanta
· GhanaSoccernetGhana international midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has completed a return to Cagliari Calcio, rejoining the Sardinian club on loan from Atalanta with an option to buy, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
The 22-year-old’s move has been officially announced by Cagliari, bringing an early end to his loan spell at Bologna, where he struggled for regular playing time during the first half of the season.
Sulemana, a product of the Hellas Verona youth academy, first arrived at Cagliari in the summer of 2023 following a 4 million Euros transfer.
He made a strong impression in his debut season, featuring in 24 Serie A matches and scoring two goals as Cagliari successfully avoided relegation.
His energetic box-to-box style, physical presence and ability to arrive late in the box made him a valuable option in midfield.
His performances earned him a big move to Atalanta in 2024 for a fee close to double what Cagliari paid, underlining his rapid rise in Italian football.
However, Atalanta opted to loan the Ghanaian to Bologna shortly after, with an option to buy reportedly set at 11.5 million Euros.
The Bologna spell did not go as planned. Sulemana managed only four competitive appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, accumulating just 112 minutes of game time.
With limited opportunities, all parties agreed to terminate the loan midway through the season.
Cagliari have now moved quickly to bring back a familiar face, securing Sulemana on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent in June 2026.
The club believes his prior experience and understanding of their system will help strengthen their midfield as they continue to battle for stability in Serie A.
The return offers a chance for Sulemana to revive his club career and regain momentum ahead of future international assignments with the Black Stars.
