Ghana head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says his team must win their final group match against Tanzania if they are to have any hope of progressing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

His comments follow a 1-1 draw with Mali on Friday in Berkane, which has left the Black Queens’ qualification hopes hanging by a thread.

The result sees Ghana winless after two games, having suffered a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions South Africa in their opening fixture.

With only one point to their name in Group C, the Black Queens now face a do-or-die encounter against Tanzania on Monday, needing a win to keep their campaign alive.

“We played a really good game [against Mali]. We had chances to win it. We are a bit sad, but we need to win the next game,” Bjorkegren said.

Ghana took an early lead at the Stade Municipal de Berkane through Alice Kusi, who found the net in the sixth minute.

Despite dominating much of the first half, they failed to extend their advantage.

Mali drew level in the second half through Aissat Traore, punishing a defensive lapse to equalise. The result leaves Mali on four points, while Ghana must now secure maximum points in their final game to have any chance of advancing.
