Daniel Agyei: 'A massive honour' – Debutant ready to give all for Black Stars
· GhanaSoccernetLondon-born Ghanaian forward Daniel Agyei has described his maiden call-up to the Black Stars as a "massive honour", vowing to give everything for the shirt when Ghana face Austria and Germany in upcoming international friendlies.
The 28-year-old Kocaelispor striker is one of four debutants named in Otto Addo's 26-man squad for the crucial World Cup preparation matches. Ghana will face Austria in Vienna on March 27 before travelling to Stuttgart to take on Germany three days later.
"It's a massive honour to be called up to the Ghana national team. As a player you always dream of representing your country at this level, so to finally get the opportunity means everything to me, and I'm ready to do my all for the shirt," Agyei said, as quoted by sportsworldgh.
Agyei's invitation comes on the back of his performances in the Turkish Süper Lig, where he has netted four goals in 22 league appearances for newly promoted Kocaelispor this season.
His recent exploits include a standout performance as a second-half substitute against Kayserispor in February, where he scored twice to secure a 2-1 victory for his side.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Agyei built his career in the English Football League, featuring for Burnley, Leyton Orient, Crewe Alexandra, and Oxford United before moving to Turkey in July 2025. Standing at 183 cm, his versatility allows him to operate both as a forward and winger, making him a valuable tactical option for the Black Stars.
Agyei joins fellow debutants Derrick Luckassen, Marvin Senaya, and Patrick Pfeiffer in a squad that also sees the return of Iñaki Williams, Thomas Partey, and Alexander Djiku.
The matches against Austria and Germany form a critical part of Ghana's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
