2026 World Cup: We have quality to make a strong impact - Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars forward Antoine Semenyo believes Ghana has the quality to compete strongly at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is eager for the team to create its own success story on football’s biggest stage.
Despite missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Ghana secured a place at the 23rd edition of the Mundial, which will be staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Speaking in an interview with FIFA, the Bournemouth attacker expressed confidence in the current squad, insisting the team is determined to prove itself against the world’s best nations.
"I think that's the intention. I feel like we do want to write our own story. We've got such a good team, and we just need to prove to the world that we can be up there and compete with everyone else," the Manchester City forward said.
"I feel like that's the only question right now, so once we do that, that'll be the story written.
The 26-year-old also shared his personal ambition for the tournament, stating that progressing beyond the group stage would be an important achievement for the Black Stars.
"I don't want to jinx anything, but I think, for me personally, getting through the group stage would be a start for us. I feel like we can go on and do special things," Semenyo added.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17 before facing England at the Boston Stadium on June 23.
The Black Stars will wrap up their Group L fixtures against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
