Discipline, balance, and unity key for Uganda at AFCON 2025 – Paul Put

Uganda head coach Paul Put says discipline, tactical balance, and collective unity will be the foundation of his team’s campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Since his appointment, Put has prioritised building a team that is mentally strong and strategically organised. “Togetherness and discipline were among my top priorities from day one,” he said. “For AFCON, I add a stronger will to win; that determination must outweigh the fear of losing.”

Put believes success in Morocco will depend on maintaining structure and composure, especially against top sides like Nigeria and Tunisia. “We want a team that holds its shape, fights in transitions, and believes it can compete,” he noted.

The coach also emphasised the importance of experience blended with youthful energy. “Balance is key. Experience helps in high-pressure situations, but you need youth, flair, and tactical discipline too,” he said.

Put expects leadership from senior players such as Khalid Aucho while giving opportunities to emerging talents from KCCA, Vipers, and other Uganda Premier League sides. “Several young players are ready to make their mark. Africa should look out for their discipline and maturity,” he added.

The Cranes will be targeting their first knockout stage appearance since 2019.

Uganda will open their AFCON campaign against Tunisia before facing Nigeria and Tanzania in Group D.
