While hosting the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco is reportedly considering a bid to host the tournament again in 2028, according to local media reports.

The North African nation has received widespread acclaim for its organisation of the ongoing AFCON 2025, with modern stadiums and efficient logistics reinforcing its reputation as a premier host for continental football. This successful delivery is seen as a key foundation for a potential bid for the next available tournament.

A major pillar of Morocco's hosting credentials will be the future completion of the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. Designed to hold up to 115,000 spectators, the venue is slated for a 2028 opening and is intended to be the largest football stadium in the world, perfectly aligning with the AFCON 2028 timeline.

"We have legitimate ambitions," Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa recently told L'Équipe, hinting at the country's broader sporting aspirations.

The 2028 edition holds special significance as it will be the first tournament under the Confederation of African Football's new four-year cycle. Competition for hosting rights is expected to be strong, with other nations like South Africa and Egypt also possessing the necessary infrastructure.

CAF is anticipated to formally open the bidding process after the conclusion of the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
