GPL: My players are really down - Bashir Hayford reveals how poor form is affecting Heart of Lions
· GhanaSoccernetHeart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has expressed worry about the team’s horrendous form in the Ghana Premier League in the last two months.
The Kpando-based club is winless in the last eight matches, a run of poor form that has affected the team’s chances of winning the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking in his post-match interview after Heart of Lions’ 3-0 defeat to Dreams FC on Sunday, Bashir Hayford lamented how his team continues to play good football but still fails to win matches.
“My worry is that we have lost about three or four matches in a row. Everywhere we go, people see that we are playing good football, but at the end of the day we lose. That’s exactly what happened today. We dominated, but out of the blue, they scored,” he said in an interview with Heart of Lions TV.
According to the experienced tactician, the eight-game winless run is having a toll on his players and has affected their psychological well-being. He has, however, assured fans that he is engaging his players and they are determined to work hard to turn things around.
“Now the major work is on the players. I have to psyche them. They are really down. Having fought, and at the end of the day, they don’t take anything home. It’s a worry, but we will continue working hard,” Bashir Hayford added.
Up next for Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League, the team will take on relegation-threatened Eleven Wonders.
