Jesurun Rak-Sakyi finally made his much-anticipated debut for Ghana in their 2-0 defeat to Mexico in a pre-World Cup friendly at the Estadio Cuauhemoc in Puebla.

The winger was handed a starting role for the Black Stars in his first appearance for the senior national team as Ghana continued preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rak-Sakyi endured a difficult opening half and struggled to make a significant impact as Mexico dominated possession and controlled much of the game.

However, the 23-year-old nearly spectacularly announced himself in the 53rd minute when he unleashed a powerful effort that crashed against the crossbar, coming inches away from scoring on his debut for Ghana.

With the Black Stars chasing the game following Mexico’s dominant display, Rak-Sakyi was substituted in the 66th minute and replaced by Razak Simpson.

The talented winger remains contracted to Crystal Palace FC and spent last season on loan at Turkish outfit Çaykur Rizespor before another spell with English Championship side Stoke City FC.

Despite the defeat, Rak-Sakyi’s debut offered a glimpse of his attacking quality and potential as Ghana continues to fine-tune preparations ahead of the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
