We have to do better – Mohammed Salisu opens up on Monaco’s narrow defeat to Paris FC
· GhanaSoccernetGhana defender Mohammed Salisu has reflected on AS Monaco’s narrow defeat to Paris FC in the French Ligue 1 at the weekend.
The Black Stars defender, who has recently gained his starting spot at the club played full throttle of the match as his outfit fell short to the newly promoted Ligue 1 side.
Nigeria international Moses Simon emerged as the hero of the match, firing home the match-winner in the 53rd-minute mark.
As the Principality club gear up for the weekend fixture against RC Lens, Salisu has implored his teammates to improve their performance following Paris FC setback.
“Regarding the last match against Paris FC (0-1), we have to do better. In the future, we need to know how to better manage this kind of match” he told the club’s media.
Meanwhile, Salisu has promised to motivate and support young players in the Monaco squad grow.
“I think some players, like the younger ones, are a bit tired. But with experience, we have to motivate and support them. It’s also my job to guide them and set a good example” he added.
The Black Stars defender has regain his starting spot at Monaco, having started in the last seven games for the French outfit this season.
Salisu struggled to pin down a regular place in the starting lineup last season, marking just 24 appearances across competitions. The Ghana international was predominantly used as a back-option, with his last start for Monaco coming in February last term.
The 26-year-old centre-back has made six appearances in the French Ligue 1 for Monaco, scoring one goal across the period. In the Champions League, Salisu has racked up three appearances.
The defender joined Monaco in summer 2023, signing a five-year deal with the Principality club.
Since joining Monaco, the Black Stars defender has racked up 46 appearances, scoring four goals and an assist across the period.
