Aziz Misbau named MVP after impressive display in WAFU U20 opener against Nigeria

Black Satellites captain Aziz Misbau was deservedly named Most Valuable Player (MVP) following his standout performance in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Nigeria in the opening match of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship on Thursday.

The influential striker gave Ghana an early lead with a thunderous finish into the roof of the net, capping off a dominant first-half display at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. His goal not only electrified the home crowd but also set the tone for a fiercely contested clash between two of West Africa’s footballing giants.

Beyond his goal, Aziz was a commanding presence throughout the match. Operating with maturity beyond his years, he broke up play with crucial interceptions, dictated the tempo from midfield, and led by example in a physical and high-stakes encounter. His composure and drive were instrumental as Ghana matched Nigeria’s intensity across the pitch.

Even after Nigeria’s second-half equalizer, headed in by Abdullahi Muhammed from a corner—Aziz continued to inspire his teammates, earning widespread applause from the home supporters.
