Former Senegal boss Aliou Cissé has been appointed head coach of Angola's national men's football team, signing a four-year deal with the Palancas Negras.

The 2022 CAF Coach of the Year takes over after parting ways with Libya earlier this week, reportedly due to a salary dispute.

Cissé now faces the challenge of rebuilding an Angolan side that failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and crashed out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.

Cissé is best known for transforming Senegal into African champions. He led the Teranga Lions to their first-ever AFCON title in 2021, defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the final.

He also guided Senegal to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, reaching the Round of 16 in Qatar.

With Angola, his primary objective will be to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON and lead the team on a deep run in the tournament.

The Palancas Negras will hope Cissé can replicate the success he brought to Senegal, bringing stability and tactical discipline to a side that has struggled on the continental stage in recent years.
