World Cup 2026: Aduana FC CEO backs Otto Addo to lead Black Stars to success
· GhanaSoccernetAduana Football Club CEO Collins Atta Poku has thrown his weight behind the Ghana Football Association’s decision to bolster the Black Stars’ technical bench ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while firmly rejecting suggestions that head coach Otto Addo is undeserving of his position.
Speaking to Citi Sports on Monday, February 9, 2026, Atta Poku insisted that Addo’s right to lead Ghana to the Mundial was earned through the most important currency in football: results.
“He earned a slot by qualifying us, so it’s good that we are taking him,” Atta Poku stated. “If he needs backup to excel, let’s provide all that he needs so that the Black Stars can go and excel at the Mundial in the United States of America.”
His comments come in the wake of the GFA’s appointment of five experienced technical staff to support Addo’s setup, including French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren.
The reinforcements are widely seen as part of a broader strategy to sharpen Ghana’s preparation for a challenging Group L campaign against England, Croatia, and Panama.
Atta Poku, who revealed he has engaged directly with some of the newly appointed personnel, expressed confidence in the revamped technical structure.
“I was with Shadoh and Alain Ravera, the assistant, and they are all working strongly to ensure that they get some gems to come and play for us during the World Cup,” he added. “I’m optimistic that these people will come in and help what we have to get better.”
Ghana will open their 2026 World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27. With qualification secured and reinforcements now in place, the focus shifts squarely to execution.
For Atta Poku, the foundation is already there. The task now is to build upon it.
