Medeama SC clinched the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title in emphatic fashion after a scintillating 5-2 demolition of Heart of Lions at a packed Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon.
The resounding victory sealed Medeama’s second Premier League title with a game to spare, capping what has been a remarkable and absorbing campaign for the Mauve and Yellow under coach Ibrahim Tanko.
Driven by an electric atmosphere and backed by thousands of jubilant supporters, Medeama delivered a championship-worthy performance to reclaim the domestic crown for the first time since their historic triumph in the 2022/23 season.
Star forward Kelvin Obeng and the influential Derrick Fordjour stole the spotlight with sensational brace performances, powering the hosts to a memorable victory and sparking wild celebrations across Tarkwa.
Medeama drew first blood in the 18th minute when Kelvin Obeng opened the scoring, sending the home supporters into early celebration. However, Heart of Lions responded strongly as Moses Ayiem restored parity, briefly silencing the charged atmosphere inside the TnA Stadium.
But any hopes of an upset quickly faded after the restart.
Just one minute into the second half, Obeng struck again to restore Medeama’s advantage and shift momentum firmly back in favour of the league leaders. From there, the champions-elect turned on the style.
Fordjour extended the lead in the 72nd minute before adding his second ten minutes later to make it 4-1, effectively putting the contest beyond the reach of the visitors and igniting scenes of jubilation among the home faithful.
Although Heart of Lions’ Dogli converted from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit and offer a flicker of hope, Medeama had the final word. Prince Owusu added the fifth goal late on to complete a commanding display and seal a fitting coronation for the new champions.
The victory moves Medeama five points clear at the top of the table with just one match remaining, officially confirming them as champions of Ghana for the second time in the club’s history.
Beyond the silverware, Medeama’s triumph also marks the return of the Ghana Premier League title to Tarkwa for the first time in three years, while extending the dominance of the Western Region in Ghanaian football. Remarkably, the title has now remained in the region for four consecutive seasons — from Medeama’s maiden triumph in 2022/23, to FC Samartex 1996 in 2023/24, Bibiani Gold Stars FC in 2024/25, and now back to Medeama in 2025/26.
