Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito expressed satisfaction with both the result and the individual contribution of Johnson Oppong after the Porcupine Warriors’ 2-0 victory over Eleven Wonders in the Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko claimed all three points at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday, with Peter Amidu Acquah opening the scoring in the 16th minute before substitute Johnson Oppong sealed the outcome late on.

The win was not without difficulty, as Eleven Wonders enjoyed extended spells of possession and applied pressure, particularly in the second half, forcing Kotoko to remain disciplined.

Oppong, making a rare appearance this season, was introduced from the bench and made an immediate impact by finding the net in the 89th minute.

Speaking after the match, Zito singled out the 27-year-old forward, acknowledging the persistence required to earn his opportunity.

“I am happy for him because he struggled [to make it to the first team],” Zito said.

“If his first game of the season, he has been able to score a goal, I wish every game he would have the opportunity to play, he would increase the tally and the self-confidence will come back to him.”

The victory lifts Asante Kotoko to third place in the league standings, reinforcing their position among the early title contenders.

Attention now turns to their next fixture, with Zito’s side set to face Bechem United on December 28 as they look to maintain momentum in a tightly contested campaign.
