Kotoko interim boss Prince Owusu explains reason behind brilliant performance in first GPL win
· GhanaSoccernetInterim head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Prince Owusu, has opened up on the factors behind his side's impressive 2-0 victory over Young Apostles in Wenchi, describing the result as deeply personal and significant.
The Porcupine Warriors bounced back from last week's Super Clash defeat to Hearts of Oak with a commanding performance on the road, lifting the team from fifth to fourth place in the Ghana Premier League standings. They now trail leaders Medeama SC by seven points.
Owusu, who stepped up from his role as assistant following Abdul Karim Zito's resignation, revealed that mental preparation and tactical discipline were the cornerstones of the victory.
"It means a lot. This is my first win; definitely make people recognise what I can do," Owusu said.
He acknowledged the weight his players carried after the disappointing loss to their fiercest rivals.
"There was pressure after the Hearts loss; the players felt it, so we tried to talk to them to forget about the pressure and then concentrate on the formation that we wanted to play."
The coach credited his squad's willingness to embrace instructions as the difference-maker.
"They listened to us, and it worked perfectly today for us."
The win not only provides a morale boost for Kotoko but also offers Owusu a first taste of success in his interim role as he seeks to steady the ship and keep the club's faint title hopes alive.
