First Kotoko win shows what I can do, says Prince Owusu after Young Apostles victory

Asante Kotoko interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu believes his side’s victory over Young Apostles FC has validated his credentials and highlighted what he can offer the club.

The Porcupine Warriors travelled to Wenchi seeking redemption after a damaging 1-0 home defeat to Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium had stalled their title charge.

Under pressure to respond, Kotoko delivered a composed display, with goals from Johnson Oppong Owusu and Samba O’Neil sealing a vital away win.

For Owusu, the result carried personal significance. “It means a lot to me. This is my first win, and it makes people recognise what I can do,” he said after the match.

The interim boss acknowledged the weight of expectation hanging over the squad following their setback in the Super Clash. “There was pressure. The players felt it themselves. So we spoke to them and asked them to put the pressure behind them and focus on how we wanted to play.

“They listened, and it worked perfectly for us today. Once we scored the two goals, everything became clear in our performance.

“So we are okay with it.”

The victory lifts Kotoko to fourth place on 38 points, restoring belief within the camp as they prepare to host Vision FC on Matchday 24 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
