'It's a nightmare for those guys' – LA Galaxy coach Vanney on facing Joseph Paintsil

LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney has described Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil as a "nightmare" for opposing defenders, praising his pace and shiftiness after the attacker's recent run of form.

Paintsil, who has scored twice in his last three Major League Soccer appearances, rescued a point for the Galaxy in their weekend draw with Vancouver Whitecaps. Vanney believes the 28-year-old's movement in a more central role has made him even more dangerous.

"And I feel like now that he's been in the middle the last few games, I feel he's really involved in more actions," Vanney said.

He then explained why centre-backs struggle to cope with the Ghanaian.

"For centre backs who sometimes like bigger guys they can deal with, when they have a small, quick guy who is as shifty and as fast as he is, it's a nightmare for those guys."

Paintsil has been a key figure for the Galaxy since arriving in 2024, helping them win the MLS Cup in his debut season. After missing several matches due to injury, he has returned strongly and continues to be the team's primary threat in behind defences.
