Ghana set up Burkina Faso rematch in CAF African Schools Championship final on Friday

Ghana will renew their growing rivalry with Burkina Faso in the final of the CAF African Schools Football Championship after both sides advanced from the semi-finals to set up a familiar WAFU B decider.

The Black Damsels booked their place in the final for a second straight year with a narrow 1-0 victory over Zambia on Thursday, April 9 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Led by Sandra Boakye, the defending champions struck early and managed the contest with composure to keep their title defence firmly on track.

Ghana’s decisive moment arrived in the eighth minute when Blessing Tettey capitalised on space along the right flank before unleashing a powerful long-range effort that beat the Zambian goalkeeper.

The early breakthrough proved sufficient, as Ghana controlled proceedings and protected their slender advantage to the final whistle.

Having lifted the trophy in Accra last year with victory over Uganda, Ghana now have the chance to retain their crown on the continental stage.

However, standing in their way is a Burkina Faso side that has already proven difficult to overcome.

Burkina Faso, who edged Morocco in their semi-final, have defeated Ghana in both the WAFU B regional final and the group phase of the current tournament.

Friday’s final presents Ghana with an opportunity for redemption.
