'We wanted to score goals and defend as a team' – Antoine Semenyo on City's FA Cup triumph over Liverpool
· GhanaSoccernetManchester City winger Antoine Semenyo has credited his side’s emphatic 4–0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool to a strong team ethic built on defensive organisation and sharp finishing.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the April 4 clash, the Ghana international highlighted the squad’s commitment to sustaining the momentum generated from their recent Carabao Cup success.
Semenyo, who scored City’s third goal early in the second half after being set up by Rayan Cherki, explained that the team approached the game intent on delivering another commanding display against one of their fiercest rivals.
"Feels amazing. The team played really well today. We wanted to continue from the Carabao Cup final, and we carried on today," he said.
The 26-year-old revealed that players had held discussions after the Carabao Cup final about improving both their attacking efficiency and defensive stability.
"We said from the final once we are back we wanted to score goals, defend as a team and we did that perfectly today."
The victory, which featured a hat-trick from Erling Haaland, was also built on a solid defensive foundation, including a key penalty save by goalkeeper James Trafford.
For Semenyo, who completed a £64 million move to City in January 2026, the performance underlined what he described as a near-flawless execution of their tactical approach as the team continues its pursuit of more trophies this season.
