'Players abroad knocking on the door' – Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says several players abroad have expressed interest in joining Ghana’s senior women’s national team ahead of upcoming competitions.
His current squad includes both homegrown talents and dual nationals who have opted to represent Ghana.
Recent additions such as Abigail Kofi Kim, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, and Josephine Bonsu have strengthened the team’s depth and international experience.
Speaking after guiding the Black Queens to qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Bjorkegren revealed that recruitment efforts are ongoing as he builds a competitive side for Morocco.
“We have so many good players in Ghana and a little bit everywhere, I will say. There are some players who are already abroad and are already knocking on the door [to play for the Black Queens],” he told Joy Sports.
The Swedish coach emphasised that local talent remains equally vital to the team’s long-term success.
“We also have many local players who are doing so well. I am looking forward to being more involved in the local leagues and local football to connect more with the coaches here,” he said.
The 2026 WAFCON will serve as both a continental championship and qualification pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, heightening the stakes for Ghana’s preparations.
