World Cup 2026: Carlos Queiroz confident as Black Stars target winning start against Panama

Black Stars Carlos Queiroz has projected confidence ahead of their 2026 World Cup opener, insisting his side are prepared to secure victory against Panama in their first Group L fixture.

The match is set for Wednesday, June 17, at BMO Field, where Ghana begin their campaign with expectations of a strong start despite an uneven build-up to the tournament.

Preparations for the four-time African champions have been far from ideal, with limited friendly matches and concerns over the fitness of several key players.

Those setbacks have added pressure ahead of what will be Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global finals.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Queiroz remained upbeat, stressing belief within the camp.

He maintained that his squad is capable of delivering a positive result in the opening game, dismissing doubts surrounding their readiness.

"We're strong, and we're going to make it," the former Egypt, Iran and Colombia boss said.

Following the Panama fixture, Ghana will take on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, before concluding their group stage campaign against Croatia on June 27 at Gillette Stadium.

The team has already settled in Toronto, where final training sessions are underway as they fine-tune preparations for their opening test of the tournament.
