Karim Zito points finger at wingers after Kotoko’s title hopes take hit at Kpando
· GhanaSoccernetAsante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito laid the blame squarely on his wide players after a damaging 3-1 defeat to Kpando Heart of Lions, admitting their failure to influence play cost his side dearly in the Ghana Premier League.
The Week 21 clash halted Kotoko’s momentum following a convincing win in the previous round and denied them the chance to close ground on leaders Medeama, who surprisingly also slipped up on Friday.
Instead, the Porcupine Warriors were punished in Kpando as Heart of Lions capitalised on defensive lapses, ending Kotoko’s hopes of narrowing an eight-point gap to Medeama, who remain top on 43 points.
Zito’s frustration was compounded by his side conceding twice from set pieces, an area he revealed had been a major focus in training ahead of the fixture.
However, it was the lack of output from the flanks that drew the strongest criticism, with the Kotoko boss openly questioning the effectiveness of his wingers in attack.
“When you look at our wingers, they didn’t operate the way I wanted them to do. Goals are easily scored through the wings and today my wingers did not do well,” Zito said.
