New NAC Breda signing Andre Ayew wants to get used to teammates and playing style
· GhanaSoccernetAndre Ayew has emphasised his need to regain full fitness and adapt to his new surroundings after making his NAC Breda debut in a 0-0 draw with FC Groningen.
The match marked the 36-year-old's return to competitive football for the first time this season.
In his first 33 minutes of action in the Dutch Eredivisie, Ayew successfully completed seven out of ten passes. Reflecting on his debut with the club's media, the former Black Stars captain highlighted his immediate priorities. "It’s good to be here. A new competition for me, but one with the necessary prestige," Ayew said. "I also need to get back to 100 per cent fitness and get used to my teammates and our playing style."
Despite the focus on his personal acclimatisation, Ayew was quick to praise the collective effort that secured a valuable point on the road. "We showed fighting spirit and determination, and we need to keep it up. Everything to keep NAC in the Eredivisie," he added, setting the team's primary objective for the season.
Ayew's signing is seen as a major coup for NAC Breda as they battle to avoid relegation. His vast experience and leadership are expected to be crucial assets in the second half of the campaign.
The forward is reportedly also eyeing a return to the Ghana national team setup with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon. His next opportunity to impress will come when NAC Breda hosts NEC on Saturday, January 17.
